Then There Was a Bracelet

Saturday, 1 pm.

Silvio completed a challenging project this week. Challenging, in his mind, does not mean “impossible” or “frustrating.” It means it captivated his creative instinct.

“A Cambridge area customer brought me several family rings with diamonds, blue topaz and teardrop larimar,” recalls Silvio. “She asked that I use any of these materials to make a bracelet. We discussed what she imagined and I suggested a design.”

The greatest challenge presented itself once Silvio had the basic structure of the bracelet in place. The client preferred an open bracelet, that would slip onto her wrist, but the configuration of the ends and the overall size of the bracelet did not lend themselves to this design. “I had to figure out a closure that would preserve the idea of an open-ended bracelet but that she could put on easily.”

With this in mind, Silvio came up with an unobtrusive hinge and closure that indeed preserved harmony between design and functionality. All materials brought by the client were used in the fabrication of this fluid piece.
