“Exercise your creativity! … Take some time off the slopes to dabble in the arts. Specially designed, hands-on workshops help you create your own arts and crafts project to enjoy for years to come. Local artists provide instruction and all the materials needed to complete your project.” – Smugglers Notch Resort – Activities and Amenities – Art and Crafts Workshops
Arts & Crafts activities of all sorts take place weekly at Smuggs under the very apropos banner Artists in the Mountains. Today marked the official addition of a jewelry making workshop by Silvio.
“My first class at Smuggs was today, officially,” says Silvio, beaming, “Well, it would have been today, but they just added it to their choice of classes so people don’t know yet. I hope people will begin signing up soon and that I’ll have a class next Wednesday. It will be every Wednesday from 11 am to 3 pm. Anyone can sign up, not only guests staying at Smuggs. I have had so many requests to give classes. This is going to be great!”
He stops a moment to flip through photos on his phone, looking for the right one to insert in this article. “Ha! Here it is, see? We’ll be fabricating a copper and silver leaf pendant. Every Wednesday, every participant will leave the one-day class with a completed pendant. I provide all materials and tools. All people need to bring is a lunch. There is room for 10 people each week.”
Silvio had been thinking about getting back to teaching for quite a while and is very grateful for this arrangement with Smuggs. “Years ago, I taught part of a jewelry making class at Highland University, in New Mexico. At that time, I taught one aspect of jewelry making which was stone setting. This class at Smuggs is just the beginning. Maybe we can do different projects over time.”
As a matter of fact, Silvio has been exploring various ideas to bring teaching back into the balance – no pun intended. “It would be nice if I could find a space right here in town or nearby where I can set up a permanent classroom!”

See you next Wednesday maybe!
